We have the right to keep goats and/or change the breeding schedule at any time.
We do not take advance deposits, but have a waiting list for each doe.
We require a 50% non-refundable deposit once kids are born and genders have been announced to hold each goat of your choice until the agreed upon date. If the goat(s) have not been picked up by 10 days beyond the agreed pick-up date, your deposit will be forfeited and the goat(s) will be offered to the next person on our waiting list.
All goats are welcome to a veterinary CVI before leaving the farm, at the buyer’s expense. This is a required step when shipping.
Priority is given to show and/or performance homes.
We offer incentives! We will reimburse you if you help prove out your goat(s) purchased from us in the following ways:
Kids
We typically have kids born in the winter and spring when parasite populations are at their lowest. Kids are hybrid raised, meaning they are with mom all day and penned separately inside our barn at night in the baby stall. Kids will be taught to drink milk from a bottle and/or lambar at night.
All kids are disbudded if they are not naturally polled. They will receive a CD&T vaccine and possibly their booster before leaving us depending on age. Kids will be placed on a medicated feed at least 1 week prior to pick-up date if they are old enough for grain to help prevent stress induced growth of coccidia. We encourage you to keep them on a medicated feed for at least 4-6 weeks. All registered kids are tattooed for ID purposes, per registry guidelines.
Bucklings are castrated using the Burdizzo method. This is a bloodless castration method and the testicles/scrotum do not fall off. A fabulous goat mentor taught us that this is the most humane method and carries the lowest risk for infections and complications. Boys are castrated at 10 weeks of age and required to stay for 2 weeks after castration so we may observe that the procedure was successful.
Deworming
We practice responsible deworming here at Savvy Duck Acres. That means we NEVER do routine deworming. Our goats receive dewormers only when they are indicated through their individual FAMACHA/5-Point checks. We deworm only on an individual basis and never the whole herd at a time or following any kind of worming schedule. Dewormer resistance is a huge problem across much of the United States. We highly recommend finding a parasite management course in your area if you would like to learn more.
